Parish Council Precept 2026/2027

Posted 2 weeks ago (27/11) by Theresa Goss

The Parish Council reviews its budget annually to enable it to submit its Precept demand to Cherwell District Council.

Following that budgetary review, the Parish Council’s Budget and Precept for 2026/2027 will be £107,938.

The Precept forms part of the annual Council Tax demand issued by Cherwell District Council.  When the overall Precept figure is broken down per household, it continues to remain low at £78.73 per year for a band D property, which equates to approximately £1.51 per week.  This is an increase of 30p per week compared to 2025/2026.  As residents may be aware, Band D is the reference point for reporting Council Tax, as an indicator of the average cost.

The Parish Council felt it needed to increase the Precept to cover its own increasing costs for the services and amenities it provides for the benefit of the whole community in the village, which includes:

  • Adderbury Cemetery, including the Friends Meeting House
  • Grass cutting in the Lucy Plackett playing field/roadside verges/amenity areas/Milton Road field
  • Adderbury Lakes
  • Traffic Calming
  • Supporting the Day of Dance
  • Walled Garden Allotments
  • Work to address flooding issues
  • Tree work and wall repairs on Parish Council land
  • Street Furniture replacement and repairs
  • Supporting Adderbury Library
  • Giving grants to village organisations
  • Revising Adderbury Neighbourhood Development Plan

The Oxfordshire Association of Local Councils has advised all Parish Councils that they should use the Precept to cover all budgetary costs for the services provided in the village.

The Parish Council hopes that residents understand the reasoning behind the Parish Council’s increase in the Precept for next year.
